Destination: California, USA
California is on the west coast of the United States and stretches from the border with Mexico, in the south, as far as the boundary with the state of Oregon in the north. On its eastern side, it is flanked by the states of Nevada and Arizona. California has a range of unique geological features, which stretch from north to south throughout the entire length of the state. These create a variety of landscapes and climates, making California an excellent place to visit. The largest city in California is Los Angeles, home to Hollywood film stars, top businessmen, Californian surf enthusiasts and four million inhabitants. From its tropical beaches and cosmopolitan shopping malls it’s just a short trip to Sierra Nevada’s vast forests of giant sequoias or the golf season that lasts all year round under the permanently blue skies of the Palm Spring desert.
San Francisco, California’s other major city, is almost 600 kilometres to the north. This beautiful city hugs the foothills of the mountainous peninsula of the vast blue bay, which is skirted by coastal mountains. It is much less metropolitan than Los Angeles and lacks its soft sandy beaches and its warm waters, but is much more scenic. Yosemite National Park and its spectacular alpine scenery are just a four-hour drive to the east. California's Wine Country, which includes the Sonoma and Napa Valley are to the north, less than an hour away.
