Destination: Bilbao (Spain)
Bilbao has experienced profound changes during recent years. What was a city with a grey profile, like the works of 19th-century British painters obsessed with the melancholy of the harbour, has yielded to an enthusiastic city open to the world and its trends. The recent remodelling of emblematic buildings of the city, the awakening of the city to its natural resources coexisting inside and looming very close, and the appearance of the Guggenheim Museum phenomenon have revolutionised the flavour and nuances of one of the emblematic cities of northern Spain with a bold personality.
In this process, it is also worth mentioning the contribution of the new Sondika Airport, designed by Santiago Calatrava, which transmits Bilbao’s new ambiance from the moment of arrival. A new staging, a quality and varied leisure offer, carefully-prepared gourmet cuisine and the exceptional landscape blending with the city are the main differential values of a destination city that carries the well-understood flavour of its past and is constantly renewed by its new focus and its new players.
