The Hospes
Amérigo is a former Dominicanconvent which has been totally renovated and is located in the historic centre
of Alicante(known as the “City of Light”) just a few steps
away from PostiguetBeach. The building rises in all its
splendour in the well-known street of Rafael
Altamira. Its sober and elegant architecture, which still retains the original
elliptical arches and ironwork, has been combined with the most cutting-edge trends
in interior design. Not long ago, the Hospes
Amérigo in Alicantewas awarded the distinction of “Best European Hotel for Innovation and Design”. The Hospes
Amérigo is located very close to two of the most emblematic buildings in
the city: the Town Hall and the Double Cathedral of San Nicolás. One of its charms lies in the intimate passage leading
the hotel. It is a tranquil and peaceful hideaway with tables and chairs which
combine dark wood and light coloured fabrics. Breakfast is served on the
mezzanine facing the vestibule, which is shared with an area with halls in a
Japanese style. The softness of forms and textures, well-chosen
furnishings, cream tones and generous blacks make minimalist sobriety an
essential part of its personality. Another attraction of the Hospes Amérigo is its terrace Loungebecause of its exceptional location on the hotel roof. While guests enjoy a cup
of tea or a glass of wine here, they can observe the city’s historical centre
and the Castle of Santa Barbara. Here, on one side, is the hotel pool which is covered during cold
seasons and is most refreshing in warmer times. Also of interest is the Senzone Tapas Bar, a space of marked design located on the ground
floor just inside the building facing the Hotel reception area. Here,
traditional tapas are updated to
become authentic flavours with their own roots: canapés with foie gras,
crayfish and bacon skewers, duck and mushroom skewers and rice with chicken and
artichokes are some of the hors d’oeuvres Hospes
Amérigo guests may enjoy.
GOURMET CLUB
Located on the ground floor of the Hospes Amérigo, Restaurant Senzone stands out for its avant-garde and refined lines. The colours silver, white and brown take centre stage in this formal space. The restaurant boasts a menu full of eastern Spanish aromas, with specialties like local paella dishes, oven baked Sea Bass with lacquered sea urchin, beef loin with caramelised onions and mushrooms, and rice with coconut milk and caramel transparency. There is no better accompaniment to these dishes than a selection of Valencia Designation of Origin wines. The restaurant seats 60 people.
WELLNESS CLUB
Without a doubt, one of the most intimate and exceptional areas of the Hospes Amérigo is its Bodyna Spa & Fitness centre. Located on the rooftop, its commands rare views over the historical centre of Alicante and the Castle of Santa Barbara. Moreover, it is made up of several spaces carefully equipped to help mind and body to rediscover perfect harmony: treatment booths, fitness zones, sauna, relaxation zone, open air pool (covered or open depending on the season) and a teakwood floor sun-terrace with panoramic views and inviting lounge chairs and tables. On the other side of this floor there is a small gym.

Destination information: Alicante
Alicante enjoys an exceptional location between the
mountains and the sea. The renowned writer Joan Fuster wrote that
Alicante “is, without a doubt, the friendliest of all Valencian cities,
a city one would choose if one were to exchange a village for a city”.
It is known for the beaches of San Juan, Albufera, Postiguet, Saladar
and Los Judíos and the coves of Cantarales, Los Judíos and Palmera.
The waters surrounding Tabarca Island are recommendable for diving
enthusiasts. The city of Alicante is known for its festivals of
“Chistians and Moors” and the Fogueres de Sant Joan, where dozens of
wood and cardboard monuments are raised throughout the city and are set
ablaze on the night of 24th June.
A city of congresses and trade fairs, Alicante has
a strong industrial and commercial tradition which can be seen
reflected in the different trade fairs that take place throughout the
year at the Province of Alicante’s Palacio Ferial: the International
Shoe Fashion and Technology Fair (MODATEC), the Automobile and
Caravanning Fair (FIRAUTO), the International Shoe Fair, the Building
Materials Fair (FIRAMACO), the Real Estate Promotion Fair, the Consumer
Goods Fair, (FIRALACANT) and the Mediterranean Tourism and Hotel Trade
Fair (MEDITUR). Alicante offers a gourmet cuisine that is completely
linked to the sea. Rice takes centre stage in delicious dishes such as
rice a la alicantina, caldero, rice a banda, rice with crust, black
rice, etc.
One of the most emblematic constructions of the city is the Castle of Santa Barbara,
located at an elevation of 166 metres and dating back to the 16th
century. Other important monuments are the Tower of Homage, the Bastion
of the English, the Chapel of Santa Barbara, the Hall of Philip II,
etc. From the Bastion, visitors may marvel at the best views of the
city and the coast.
Visitors may also glimpse Tabarca Island located in front of the
Cape of Aljub or the Cape of Santa Pola. Also of note are the Church of
Santa María which dates back to the 16th century; the Double Cathedral
of San Nicolás de Bari which was finished in the 17th century; the Town
Hall, an excellent work of Baroque civil architecture which was
finished in the 18th century; the Monastery of La Santa; the Castle of San Fernando;
and the Gravina Palace built in the 18th century, which today houses
the Provincial Archive under Alicante Provincial Council. In addition,
Tabarca Island belongs to the municipality of Alicante and was declared
an Artistic-Historical Monument in 1964.
Separated from Alicante by a distance of eleven
nautical miles, it is an authentic natural monument and the only
inhabited island of the Community of Valencia; historically, it was
also a refuge for pirates and corsairs. The waters surrounding it have
been declared a Marine Reserve.
It has an important fortified area (wall, bastion and doors). Of
special note is the church (18th century) and the Castle of San José.
