Last week, to mark the presentation of the Michelin Guide for Spain and Portugal 2010, which will be their centenary year, the Restaurant Lasarte of the Hotel Condes of Barcelona, run by Martin Berasategui, obtained its second Michelin star. It is the only restaurant in the centre of Barcelona to possess two Michelin stars. After opening in January 2006, after just 10 months in operation, it was awarded its first star in the Michelin guide. With capacity for just 35 diners, which is the optimum number for presenting the top quality cuisine produced by Martin that balances products and cooking, the Lasarte menu offers a careful selection of Martin Berasategui’s flagship dishes and a symbiosis of the products and flavours of his native land with those of the local Catalan cuisine. The kitchen is under the direction of Antonio Saez and Josep Villodre is in charge of the dining room, but both are responsible for ensuring that everything that arrives at the table is simply perfect. The restaurant, apart from being a gastronomic reference point, is also an aesthetic one, a restrained and stylish space with a distinctly modernist inspiration. |
