Getting there

Destination: Montevideo, Uruguay

Montevideo is the capital of Uruguay and is located in the centre-south of the country. It has all the charm of modernity and progress, as well as offering something of the bohemian and history that can be felt as you stroll along its streets.
In Montevideo, you can visit the Parque Rodo district, which has twenty-five hectares of gardens, and not far away there is Batlle Park, where you can tour the Centennial Football Stadium , which was the place where the First World Cup in history took place in 1930, won by  the host country, Uruguay.

Carrasco and Pocitos, which are in the city outskirts, are worth visiting for their beauty and eccentricity. It is in these beautiful neighborhoods of Montevideo where the wealthier classes reside. Pocitos, as well as being glamorous, has a long beach that eventually takes us to Rio de Janeiro.
It is worth visiting the picturesque Port Market, where you can sample the excellent Uruguayan beef, buy crafts and listen to the typical rhythm of Candombe.

Locals always have time to "drink mate” (mate and flask in hand) together with the particular beauty of the waterfront or promenade.
One of the most beautiful walks, whether for day or night, is to the Old Town. There the Citadel Gate still survives, which until 1829, protected the site from possible invasion. To be found within this historic quarter are some of the most beautiful and picturesque colonial buildings: the Metropolitan Cathedral, the Cabildo, the Solís Theatre and Torres García Museum, among many other attractions.
