Destination: Gran Canaria
Gran Canaria is a miniature continent with a range of beaches as varied as the changing landscapes it conceals. There is Maspalomas, a huge white sandy beach that starts from Playa del Inglés and stretches as far as the great lighthouse of Maspalomas, after skirting a desert of dunes that bathes the island’s southern coast. It is here, in the south, where some of the quiet family beaches are to be found, such as San Agustin, Amadores beach or the diminutive beach of Puerto de Mogán. But there is also the beach of the traditional tourist resort of Puerto Rico, one of the places offering the best climate in the entire country.
The north of the island is a refuge for those who prefer isolated places. You will find small seaside spots like Agaete, an authentic getaway location for those wanting to avoid the hustle and bustle of the crowds.
Agaete’s natural pools Agaete is located 30 minutes from the capital, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. It is outstanding for its old quarter, the Nieves harbour on the shores of the Atlantic, which has a regular ferry service with the island of Tenerife and Los Berrazales, with its lush vegetation. One of the singular features of the municipality is “God’s Finger” or “Broken Rock”, a rock formation that resembles a human finger jutting from the sea. The top part of God’s Finger was destroyed by Tropical Storm Delta in 2005.
For generations, seafarers, divers, surfers, deep-sea fishermen and windsurfers have escaped to an island concealing a resort that draws to it anyone in search of sea, nature and good weather.
