Destination: Saint-Tropez (France)
St. Tropez is one of the reference points on the Côte d’Azur, the south-eastern coastal area of France, also known as the French Riviera, one of the world centres of tourism and home to numerous celebrities.
The city of Saint-Tropez is known for its luxurious ambience, its beaches, and the rustic nature of the entire town centre, which has been preserved over the years. The walls surrounding the city with their two towers, the Guillaume Tower and the Portalet Tower, distinguish it from other cities in the area. Their structures enabled the city to protect itself from many a seaborne incursion.
Saint-Tropez, an iconic glamorous holiday spot, has beaches for all tastes. The fine sandy beach of La Bouillabaisse is to be found near the entrance to the town. In the old quarter of La Ponche itself, located between Portalet Tower and the Old Tower, you can find the beach bearing the same name. This beach used to be a fisherman’s harbour and afterwards became the main trading port in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The small cove beach of Plage des Graniers still has a wild and natural look about it, Les Canebiers is one of the largest and widest, the St. Tropez beach par excellence of La Moutte, is discrete and ideal for families and Les Salins, which has a pinkish colour to it as there are coral fragments to be found in the sand.
The Old Town, with its ochre, yellow or orange-coloured facades makes for a lovely stroll and is the ideal spot in the evening for a coffee and to enjoy the harbour.
