The Hotel de Tuilerieën is located in the enchanting medieval city of Bruges, in northeast Belgium. The city’s romantic ambience seems right out of an illustration from a Brothers Grimm tale. The cityscape is characterised by houses from the 17th century with colourful façades and tiered roofs, surrounded by intricate canals with their ancient bridges. It is an oasis defined by its medieval charm, fascinating places and rich cultural heritage. To one side, there are horse-drawn carriages; to the other, there are canals and cobble-stone streets which lead to emblematic places like the Markt Square, the nerve centre of the city; the Main Square, with its 83-metre-high bell tower; the Burg; the Groeninge Museum, which houses works of art by the first Flemish painters; the Stadhuis, the oldest city hall in Belgium and Gothic masterwork of the 11th century which contains excellent collections of paintings and furniture; and the Basilica of the Holy Blood. Another of the city’s attractions is the Sint-Salvator Cathedral, with its magnificent square base Romanesque tower, giving it a castle feel. Close to the market can be found the Café de Medici, with its reputation for serving the best coffee in Bruges. Two streets up is the Chocolate Museum. |
